Dear Friends:

This past Thursday the Building and Maintenance Committee met to evaluate our parish plant and what will be needed in the future for ongoing maintenance.  I am very happy to report that the committee is doing an outstanding job on the upkeep of our facility.  During that meeting we reprioritized the ongoing maintenance list.  As you know the shut off valves have been completed, some of the new doors are in but due to manufacturing problems the rest of them will not be installed until September 15th.  Our next project is to repair all the leaks in the units under the church.  This will be done when we change over to heat in the late fall. After further evaluation and discussion, the following items need to be addressed for preventive maintenance:  a new asphalt pad for the festival foot tent and a new flat roof for the entrance of the church.  The flat roof has nothing to do with the new roof that was put on in 2003.  Leaks occur on the flat roof when we have had heavy rain.  Deacon Joe De Luca has temporarily fixed the problem.  You will see the revised list with the cost in the bulletin this weekend. Again I thank you for your generosity in the blue envelopes; we would not be able to accomplish these needed maintenance repairs without your generous support.

Please, be sure to register for Faith Formation for 2010-2011.   Our Faith Formation programs are in serious need of volunteers for the coming year.  Facilitators are needed for Faith Fest and Catechists for the Children. Training will be available for both facilitators and catechists.  This is a very important ministry in the church so please consider helping in anyway possible. If you can help, please call the parish office and the secretary will put you in touch with Lynette DeTata or Ann Marie Kelly.

This week’s Gospel, describing the construction of a tower, fits well with Labor Day weekend.  Jesus rightly points out that there is a lot to consider bringing a project to completion – the same kind of calculations that takes place in offices and factories and on worksites every single day.  While we spend a lot of time at work determining how to bring a project to completion, there is also another work that needs to be finished as well.  It is the work of bringing our lives in compliance with God’s will.  It is a task for us until the day we die.

I am looking forward to the opening of football season.

I hope the Eagles will be able to fly this year!

Go Giants!!!

Have a wonderful  week!

Fr Andrew
