Policies and Procedures

  General Policies:
Families must be registered members of the parish to participate in the program.
Our classes are in session from September until May. Our program is NOT for sacraments only...it is a complete Religious Formation Program. Our children are expected to participate in the total program. Grades one to eight with no interruptions.
Parents are required to attend preparation meetings for each of the sacraments their children will receive.

  Attendance Policy:
Weekly attendance is encouraged and expected. Each lesson builds upon the previous lesson in a developed sequence. Absences interfere with the student's formation. A note is to be brought to class the following week. If a student is out for two consecutive weeks, please notify the catechist or the Religious Education Office. Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated. All lessons and other assignments must be made up when a child is absent.
Please note: If a child had been absent for an excessive number of times, he/she may have to repeat the grade.

Procedure for taking a child out of class early:
On occasion, parents have needed to take their children out of the program before dismissal time. If such a request becomes necessary, you must do the following:
1. Write a note to the catechist stating the time you will be picking up your child.
2. When you come to pick up your child, go directly to the office, where you will sign your child out.
3. No child will be permitted to leave the building early without a parent coming into the building to pick up the child, and sign him/her out. This policy is intended for the protection of your child.

  Discipline:
The goal of the discipline policy is to provide a positive learning environment for all students. Our students are expected to behave in a respectful and Christian manner while attending class.
1. The teacher will be the first person to attempt to resolve any discipline problems.
2. If the teacher cannot resolve the situation, the student will be sent to the office.
3. If there should be a third time, the parents will be notified.
4. If there is no change after consultation with parents, the student will be placed on Home Study.
An effectively run program depends on cooperation and mutual respect between catechist and students. A cooperative spirit ensures the best results.

  Emergency Closings:
In case of inclement weather, notification of closing will be communicated by the Public Schools, catechist or the office. In most cases, if school is closed, there will be no classes. Please, if there is doubt about classes, call the office. DO NOT drop off the children without checking to make certain classes are being held.

  Announcements:
Parents should consult the weekly Sunday Bulletin for general information regarding the Religious Education Program. Although written communication reflecting changes in the program calendar or special up-coming events will be sent home with students, the Sunday Bulletin does provide another means of communicating information about the program. There is also a calendar on the wall across from the office.

  Safety:
Safety is one of our major concerns. We are asking parents to help with the responsibility of watching for all children during arrival and dismissal of classes. We suggest that you enter the parking lot via Medford Lakes Road...drop the students off at the back walkway leading in the Educational Wing. Proceed to exit via Carranza Road. It goes without saying that drivers need to be aware of the children. Patience and cooperation will help for the safety of our children.
We also request that parents be prompt when picking up their children. Remember, on weekends, parents must come to the classrooms for their children.

  Transfers and Moves:
Please notify the Office of Religious Education if you move so that we can delete you from our files. You may also need a transfer form for your children.
