The Bible — Discovering Our Story Part I

What does the Bible hold inside its covers? This year Faith Fest will focus on the Holy Scriptures. As we come together throughout this year, our goal will be to become more familiar with the Bible, with our story of salvation. The richness of our faith, its history and beginnings contained in the Bible will be discussed as a whole and reflected on in individual Faith Fests.

Bible Basics

Faith Fest — September 16, 17, &  19, 2010

Church Event — Ordinary Time

Catechism of the Catholic Church - #50-73, #75-100, #101-143

As Catholics, the Church wants us to show the value of reading, study praying with the Bible in living our lives. In this session, we will begin to grow in appreciation of the many riches the Bible holds. The Church teaches that the more we understand the structure, origin and context of the Scripture, the better we can incorporate the Bible into our daily lives. Who wrote the Bible? Where is that in the Bible? What does that Bible story mean? These are some of the questions we will begin to answer in this session.

Before the Written Word - The Old Testament  Oral Tradition

Faith Fest — October 14, 15, & 17, 2010

Church Event — Advent

Catechism of the Catholic Church - #50-73, #75-100, #101-143

This Faith Fest will introduce us to the nine great themes of the Old Testament. Though the themes and stories of the Old Testament we will learn our Salvation History. We will see how God has been active in human history, guiding, protecting and caring for us, his people. In anticipation of Advent our story points us to the coming of the Messiah promised to God’s chosen people.

One Story: Three Different Views

Faith Fed — November 18,19, & 21, 2010

Church Event — Christmas. Ordinary Time

Catechism of the Catholic Church — #124-143, #541-553. #1716-1724

The Good News of Jesus, his teachings and his death and resurrection make up the four Gospels. This Faith Fest will focus on three of the Gospels. Matthew, Mark and Luke. These gospels have much in common and are called “synoptic” from a Greek work which means “seeing together”. We will seek to understand when and why these gospels were written and the truth each evangelist (’teller of good news”) wants us to know.

Say it with a Psalm

February 24,25, & 27, 2011

Church Event — Lent, (Ash Wednesday. March 9, 2011)

Catechism of the Catholic Church — #2579, #2585-2589, 2596-2597

The Book of Psalms is a collection of songs of praise, - laments and joy. In that book we can find a psalm to fit almost any human emotion. The Gospels tell us that Jesus often used psalms to pray. As we prepare to enter the Lenten season we will explore these songs and prayers and see where and how we can use them to bring us closer in relationship to our God.

Acts — How Some Jews Became Christians

March 31, April 1, & 3, 2011

Church Event — Easter Season

Catechism of the Catholic Church — #765. #781, #858-865

In the Acts of the Apostles, we discover how the Christian faith was born and grew. As we anticipate the Easter Season, we will hear the stories of the beginning of our Church from the time Jesus left us and then sent us his Spirit to guide us to the travels of the Apostles as they spread the Good News of salvation through Jesus Christ.
