MINISTERS OF THE EUCHARISTIC Eucharistic Ministers are members of the laity authorized to distribute the Eucharist. They fulfill a service to our faith community at liturgy. During mass, they assist in distributing communion. Within the community, they assist the priest in offering communion to the homebound or those confined t o a hospital or nursing home. Extraordinary Ministers may assist in the Blessing of Throats on the feast of St. Blasé and with the distribution of ashes on Ash Wednesday. Eucharistic Ministers are trained at the parish and commissioned by the diocese. Each minister is also required to attend one meeting per year for additional training and information purposes.
