Did You Know?

.Without the priest, there would be no Eucharist.  Jesus, the High Priest, in his love, calls men to share in the ministerial priesthood.  Only the priest has, in his hands, the power to bring God to the altar through the consecration of the bread and wine as nourishment for our souls.

Pope Benedict XVI, on June 19, the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, declared 2009-2010 the Year for the Priest.  Let us adhere to the wish of our Holy Father by intensifying our prayers for priests, and “pray to the owner of the harvest that he will send out more workers to gather in the harvest.”  Matthew 9:38

HOLY EUCHARIST COMMUNITY SUPPORTS LIFE

On January 22, 2010, several members of Holy Eucharist parish joined with Catholics from other local parishes to participate in the annual March for Life in Washington DC on the anniversary of the Roe v. Wade court decision that legalized abortion in America through 9 months of pregnancy.  This annual trip is sponsored in part by our Knights of Columbus who are also working to provide free ultrasounds to pregnant women and to erect a monument depicting respect for life on the grounds of Holy Eucharist parish.

There were several teen-agers in our group which reflected the predominance of young people in the march.  Attendance was estimated at 300,000 people.  Three Holy Eucharist parishioners personally visited our Senators Menendez and Lautenberg and our Congressman, Representative John Adler, and presented them with hundreds of cards  individually signed and asking them to vote in accordance with our Declaration of  Independence which states that every American has the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Some parishioners who were unable to march, spent the day in prayer at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Washington or at local churches who sponsored special events.   All are invited to continue to pray about this issue as well as to contact your Congressional representatives requesting that their votes guarantee that all children have the right to life; that citizens are not required to fund abortions with their tax or insurance dollars; and that Catholic people in the medical professions are guaranteed their right of conscience to refuse to participate in abortions without endangering their employment.

You can easily contact congress by phone at 202-224-3121or by e-mailing the individual senators or our representative or by accessing the bishop’s website at:   www.usccb.org/action
